OverPopulation is THE major factor in environmental reality, and therefore deserves as much attention as renewable energy. It is a bigger threat to our existence than Climate Change in that IT is what drives our depletion of natural resources, destruction of oxygen-producing forests, the need to burn fossil fuels & the endless overproduction of plastic.
“It is very alarming at the rate we’re going, and although people will say, ‘In the long run, we are going to stabilize’, they’re going to stabilize - as far as I can see - at a rather higher level than the Earth can really accommodate.”
David Attenborough
"Climate change has taken on political dimensions...that's odd because I don't see people choosing sides over E=MC2 or other fundamental facts of science."
Neil DeGrasse Tyson

BALANCE's goals and activities are based on the relationships between population size, quality of life, and environmental impact. We believe that safeguarding the future of the U.S. depends upon achieving a balance between population and environment. After all, practically all of our environmental problems, and other quality of life issues, are to a significant degree caused, or exacerbated, by increasing population pressures.-

Human overpopulation is among the most pressing environmental issues, silently aggravating the forces behind global warming, environmental pollution, habitat loss, the sixth mass extinction, intensive farming practices and the consumption of finite natural resources, such as fresh water, arable land and fossil fuels, at speeds faster than their rate of regeneration. Population Matters is a membership charity that addresses population size and environmental sustainability. We believe population growth contributes to environmental degradation, resource depletion and other problems. We conduct research, inform the public and advocate improved family planning and sex education, women’s empowerment, smaller families and moderate consumption.
Population is a multiplier in the equation for finding a sustainable balance on the Earth. The more people there are, the smaller our economies must be and the simpler our lifestyles. The bigger our economies and lifestyles, the smaller our population must be. The science is clear that the current combination of world population and levels of consumption are unsustainable. We are in the process of liquidating the planet’s resources and injuring the capacity of life-sustaining ecosystems. It’s safe to say the world is overpopulated, and it will continue to be until we can say that we have achieved sustainable equilibrium.
Even if each and everyone of us contributes in an almost imperceptible way, 7.6 billion and rising is a tremendous number that our minds can’t even begin to conceptualize, with all of those trivial impacts amounting to profound transformations. The Human Overpopulation Atlas describes those deviations. Click below to watch an introduction video where I briefly explain what the Atlas is all about.

Especially in critical times, such as those faced today, it is essential to ensure that responses to migration are based on sound facts and accurate analysis. By making the evidence about migration issues accessible and easy to understand, the Portal aims to contribute to a more informed public debate.
Net migration to the UK is currently 246,000. If this continues, we will add half a million to the population every year. Over the long term, 75% of this growth will be due to immigration. This places huge pressure on public services. Read more here.
We must not simply stop population growth; we must turn it around. Since 1972, NPG has been making that case. We publish scholarly studies, call attention to valuable papers, support the distribution of books that make the case, support population student education, issue periodic newsletters and the monthly NPG Journal. We do not simply identify the problems, we propose solutions.-

Technicians are only too happy to point to technology that has solutions to all our problems up its sleeve. Unfortunately technical solutions have not as yet been able to combat world hunger in any significant way. Wherever there is no recognition or solving of the problems on a worldwide scale, war and violence would seem to be inevitable: everyone wants to survive. The only solution is a population policy applied on a worldwide scale. This site provides you – per language and, where possible, per country – with articles, films and images from all over the world showing what overpopulation is and why a population policy is important. Unfortunately too often any discussion of overpopulation or of population policies is taboo.
The Overpopulation Project studies the environmental impacts of overpopulation and explores humane policies to end population growth around the world.
The Population Association of America (PAA) is a nonprofit, scientific, professional organization established to promote the improvement, advancement and progress of the human condition through research of problems related to human population. PAA membership has grown to 3,000 reflecting professional interest in the population field. Members receive Demography, the bi-monthly journal of the Association, and PAA Affairs, the quarterly on-line newsletter.-

Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth’s biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.
To our knowledge we are the only population organization in the world that candidly promotes all of the following direct yet hopeful and empowering message: The world is significantly overpopulated right now. Overpopulation is Solvable. Successfully solving overpopulation will be an uphill battle. Yet, it is vastly easier than coping with overpopulation’s devastating consequences. And we can do it! We must successfully inspire and encourage people to choose having fewer children – below a two child average. By voluntarily choosing two – or, preferably one or none – total population will decline to a level where everyone can be properly supported, sustainably.

At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature — to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters and climate that species need to survive.
